Day 7: Our first Weekend!

It’s saturday here at the microcampus, and we’re all so excited and relieved. I’ve been so tired lately! Today, we all woke up later and and ate breakfast. It was really nice waking up late! I took the time to call my mother and friend after breakfast, and then Katie and I walked back to Yang’s to play card games and gambling-free mah jong. I’m getting okay at it, I’ve won twice? I don’t know. Like I’ve mentioned before, It’s a really fun game! After that, Madeline C. and I went to sifangjie to eat lunch. We ate the Xizhou baba, which is really yummy, but gets tiring after a while. There’s a lot of oil in it, and sometimes the meat is too salty. It’s still good though! Next, Mad C. and I went back to Yang’s and watched Inception, an amazing movie! Afterward I went back to the centre to check emails. Was the day productive? Maybe not. But it was still fun!

Hello, I'm Madeleine. I was in the pilot Microcampus program in 2012. In Xizhou, I researched Bai Minority Clothing because of my interest in the patterns and embroidery on Bai clothing. Though a seemingly lackluster topic, I found that my project became less and less about clothing, and more about the preservation of traditions in a village that is becoming more and more exposed to the world outside of the valley. I welcome you to take a look at my project, and see how my ideas and thoughts had developed over the course of a month!
